How to recognise it

  • Rounded oval about 8.4 mm wide, symmetrical top to bottom.
  • Reversible: there is no wrong way up.
  • A flat tongue with contacts on both faces sits inside the socket.

USB Type-B (SuperSpeed) — socket

Type-B with an extra storey stacked on top, almost always blue.

How to recognise it

  • Looks like a Type-B that has grown a second chamber above it.
  • Nearly always moulded in blue plastic.
  • A plain Type-B plug will fit this socket; this plug will not fit a plain Type-B.
