Micro-USB Type-B
The small trapezoid that charged every phone before Type-C.
Also called: micro USB, microUSB, old phone charger, Android charger.
How to recognise it
- About 6.85 mm wide, with two corners angled so it only fits one way.
- Much thinner front to back than a Mini-B.
- Usually black plastic inside a bare metal shell.
Where you will find it
- Phones and tablets from roughly 2010 to 2018
- Bluetooth speakers, headphones and e-readers
- Power banks, cheap accessories and dev boards
What it fits
-
A normal Micro-B plug slots into the left half of a Micro-B 3.0 socket and charges or transfers at USB 2.0 speed. This is why an old phone cable will run a portable hard drive, just slowly. The wide 3.0 plug will not fit a plain Micro-B socket.
